Is SEO the low-hanging fruit for a successful website?

Search engine optimisation (SEO) is often perceived as ‘free’ website traffic and the low-hanging fruit in website development, but in reality a lot of work goes into improving a website’s standing on Google.

While a lot of people focus on SEO to make their website successful, they lose sight of the other things that can be done to drive traffic to their website.

So, is SEO really the easiest fruit to pluck for web development?

Getting behind the wheel of your website

A good web developer will build a website that is akin to a fast car. It should have all the attributes that make it perform fast, take you where you want to go quickly, be compatible with mobile devices, look fantastic and contain the necessary parts for it to work optimally.  But, just like a fast car, if your site doesn’t receive the proper fuel and proper treatment, it won’t rank well and sit idle.

So, how do we provide the fuel necessary for your site to get going, drive traffic, and rank well on search engines?

Generating new content for the fuel tank

One way to fuel up your website is to continually develop new and relevant content to drive traffic and enable Google to see that your site is active during indexing.

New content for your website can include blogs, case studies, past projects, articles, industry news and so on are great ways to fill your website’s fuel tank.

Pushing down on the accelerator

If uploading new content onto your website is fuelling the tank, then utilising that content for your email database or social media is pressing down on the accelerator. Posting new content on your social media or via email marketing can be effective ways to use your new content to drive traffic to your website.

By marketing to your existing database and social media following, you can reach an audience who is already engaged with your brand and interested to see the latest updates; providing a consistent source of traffic to your site as easily as shifting up gears and gaining more speed.

Get a boost with a Google Ads campaign

While you‘ve been hard at work driving traffic through to your website, getting a small boost from Google Ads campaign can go a long way.

Commissioning a Google Ads campaign can send targeted leads to your website while also providing measurable and trackable data to help refine the campaign. Paid Google Ads appear alongside organic search results, making them a great way to drive traffic and give your website a boost, while improving its position in the search engine rankings.

No free rides for SEO

There are plenty of things people can do to drive more traffic and improve their website’s SEO but there is no “free” method to do so. Whether you’re creating new content, marketing to your database or reviewing your Google Ads campaign, each of these ventures require work to draw traffic.

Coming back to our simile of a fast car, your website may be shiny and new but if you’re not fuelling it with new and relevant content distributed via marketing channels, then it will be figuratively spinning its tyres at the start line. And, what’s the point of having a nice new car that goes no where?
